Key selection criteria
- Demonstrated ability to support learning and development of those you work with, building their capacity in areas such as independence, daily living skills, accessing the community and meaningful employment to improve their daily life.
- Ability, experience and willingness to implement creative, high quality person centred active support with a focus on individualised outcomes.
- Excellent working knowledge of the Disability Act 2006 (Vic).
- Ability to work well within a team environment and with key stakeholders including those we work with and their extended care team.
- A demonstrated ability to work calmly and holistically across all disabilities and complex support needs to achieve their life goals. Particularly working with individuals who have an intellectual disability and/or are on the Autism Spectrum.
- Proven experience working (1:1) and in small teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work within a team to assess, manage and respond to risk within the community.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills — clear concise English.
- Maintaining daily recording records and data collection records (training provided).
- Computer, iPhone and iPad skills.
- Experience and a demonstrated knowledge of the Positive Behaviour Support approach.
Skills and experience required
- Ability to build strong rapport with those you support, their carers and extended care team.
- Ability to provide positive behaviour support, manage anxiety and associated behaviours. Assist those you work with to regulate their mood and re-engage in tasks.
- Competencies in areas of complex needs and multiple disabilities.
- Demonstrated experience in delivery of person centred active support.
- Commitment to providing responsive and considerate care.
- Ability to work with all abilities and all ages.
- A positive attitude to life.
- Ability to plan, priorities and be organised.
Requirements
- Availability for various shifts throughout the week (up to 38hrs per week) including weekends, evenings and public holidays in peoples homes located in eastern and south eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
- Drivers License (with clean driving history) and a reliable roadworthy car.
- Two contactable referees.
- A national police check or willingness to undergo a check.
- Working with children check.
- Willing to make a commitment of a minimum of 2 years.
